Symptoms

In a particular case, the storage administrator was using SAN RepLite that caused SAN Slammer 1 CU 1 to restart because of iSCSI overload on the iSCSI card.
Replicated LUNs were unavailable in excess of 10 sec on some occurances and Windows considered the LUNs Offline.
The same problem can occur without replication and the Windows MPIO parameters listed below may prevent LUNs going offline at the OS level when the Control Unit is completing it's warmstart

Cause

Control Unit warmstarts in excess of 10 seconds and the MPIO driver considers the LUN as faulted.

The recommendations are as follows:
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\mpio\Parameters\UseCustomPathRecoveryInterval
(Set this to 1)

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\mpio\Parameters\PathRecoveryInterval
(Set this to 15)

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\mpio\Parameters\PDORemovePeriod
(Set this to 30)
