Applies to:

IBM LTO5 Tape Drive - Version Not Applicable to Not Applicable [Release N/A]
Oracle Solaris on x86-64 (64-bit)
Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit)

Symptoms

IBM LTO5, IBM LTO6 FC drives attached to S11 host.
Solaris detects the drive correctly & /dev/rmt/* links are built.
Netbackup can detect the drives with "scan" & "sgscan" commands and "robtest" is able to move medias.

Problem is observed while accessing the drives from NetBackup and with native Solaris commands like "mt" "dd" & "tar"

---- Errors ----
# dd if=/dev/rmt/0cbn bs=32k
dd: /dev/rmt/0cbn: open: I/O error

#mt -f /dev/rmt/Xcbn status
no tape loaded or drive offline

Same Drives work as expected from Linux.

Changes

New Installation of drives in S11.

Cause

HP LTO drives are not affected. Problem is specific to IBM LTO5,6 in Solaris 11.

Solution

Issue is fixed in Solaris 11.1 (update 1)
