Symptoms

Oracle Hardware Management Pack (OHMP) provides host access to the ILOM via the ilomconfig command.  In some cases, ilomconfig requests between the host and SP fail with the following message:

# ilomconfig list interconnect

ERROR: ILOM not supported on this system

 From the /var/svc/log/network-ilomconfig-interconnect:default.log file;

[ Nov  7 05:11:44 Executing start method ("/lib/svc/method/svc-ilomconfig-interconnect start"). ]
ERROR: ILOM not supported on this system

[ Nov  7 05:12:14 Method "start" exited with status 0. ]
[ Nov  7 05:34:53 Stopping because service disabled. ]
[ Nov  7 05:34:53 Executing stop method ("/lib/svc/method/svc-ilomconfig-interconnect stop").
]
ERROR: ILOM not supported on this system

[ Nov  7 05:35:39 Method "stop" exited with status 0. ]

 The usbecm (ethernet over USB) interface is configured but is reported as down;

net8              Ethernet             down       10     full      usbecm2

 The interconnect interface is correctly configured on the SP;

  /SP/network/interconnect
   Properties:
       hostmanaged = true
       type = USB Ethernet
       ipaddress = 169.254.182.76
       ipnetmask = 255.255.255.0
       spmacaddress = 02:21:28:57:47:16
       hostmacaddress = 02:21:28:57:47:17

Cause

The BMC interface between the SP and host is in an inconsistent state, causing HOST <> SP communication over the interface to fail.

Checking the @var@log@ipmi.log collected by snapshot;

{DATE} [/var/VbscIfcQ: 1706] VbscIfc.c::host_channel_read::489: VbscIfc: Failed to get available byte count.

{DATE} [/var/VbscIfcQ: 1706] VbscIfc.c::host_channel_read::489: VbscIfc: Failed to get available byte count.

Solution

Reset the SP.

From the ILOM command line interface, this will result in loss of access to the SP but does not impact the host itself;

-> reset /SP
Are you sure you want to reset /SP (y/n)? y
Performing reset on /SP
