SymptomsIn T5xx0 servers with Internal Cougar HBA installed for SAS disks "arcconf getconfig 1" command shows that the baterry is over temperature. There are also errors reported in /var/adm/messages. Example below: # ./arcconf GETCONFIG 1
Controllers found: 1 ------------------------ Controller information ------------------------ Controller Status : Optimal Channel description : SAS/SATA Controller Model : Sun STK RAID INT Controller Serial Number : 00826AA0954 Temperature : 106 C/ 222 F (Abnormal) In the same output below you can notice that the "Over temperatyre" is set to "Yes": --------------------------------------------------------
Controller Battery Information -------------------------------------------------------- Status : Charging disabled Over temperature : Yes Capacity remaining : 100 percent Time remaining (at current draw) : 3 days, 10 hours, 56 minutes ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Error in messages will look like: 7 november 2008 12.11.41 CET <hostname> The battery has exceeded normal operating temperature: controller 2.
CauseThe overtemps and high temperatures are reported by the StorageTek RAID manager for the Cougar HBA. The STK raid controller GUI is showing that the HBA controller exceeded normal operating temperature and it's battery has exceeded temperature as well. As a result the temp issue may be causing the battery to discharge. The fans do not run at sufficient speed to cool a RAID HBA (cougar) battery. Typically we have found this to be around 60% max RPM. SolutionIssue is resolved in firmware revision 7.2.2.b (patch 139444-02 or later). However it is always best to keep the system up-to-date and upgrade to latest revision possible.
