StorageTek SL150 Modular Tape Library - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Failure of robot during intialization with error code 9128 and 9127.

FCS9128, FSC9127

RC9128, RC9128

Changes

 New install.

Cause

Connector inside the Robot CRU is not connected properly.

Solution

1. Prepare the BOT for initialization by parking it to the home position with the hand fully retracted.

How to Manually Retract the Robot Up To the Parked Position in the StorageTek SL150 Modular Tape Library (Doc ID 1473827.1)

2. During the intialization, observe if the below error codes are shown up.

When 9128 code appeared:
  After Power-on,
  a. Robot started vertical move and completed (seemed no problem).
  b. Robot moves towards front of unit, stops in the middle of the unit before returning to the back of the unit. Green LED turns to Yellow.

When 9127 code appeared:
  After Power-on,
  a. Robot started vertical move and completed (seemed no problem).
  b. Robot moves from back of unit to the front before returning to back of unit (move is normal)".
  c. BOT started to turn around and stretched its hand then stopped and green LED turned to Yellow.

3. These above error codes are due to the loose connector inside the ROBOT CRU.

Attached is the picture of the cable with robot assembly.   Advise the customer to re-connect the connector tightly and then again allow the BOT intialization as mentioned in step 1.

This is connector that is often seen disloged results in 9127 and 9128 error most of the time

4. Ensure library is at latest code.

Use Patch 16193112: SL150 Firmware Version 1.82, download it from MOS under Patches and Updates.  Here is the read me doc related to this code:https://updates.oracle.com/Orion/Services/download?type=readme&aru=15871375

 ====================================

If the above steps do not resolve the problem,  here are actions to take to fix issue described:

1.  Turn off library.

2.  Remove both Magazines (Right and Left)

3.  Pull out the Mailslot.

4.  Turn on the  library.

5.  Robot started vertical move and completed (seemed no problem).

6.  Robot moves towards front of unit, stops in the middle of the unit before returning to the back of the unit. Green LED turns to Yellow.

7.  Next step, put back the Mailslot.

8.  Put back the Magazine (Right and Left).

9.  When replacing both magazines, the error disappears and the library will start with an inventory.

This was verified with the first FRU being put back into the SL150.

Corrective action from library engineering...Paraphrasing Library Engineering Support - Ryan L's comment.

Typically we have seen that the majority of the 9127 and 9128 fault codes were caused by the KLT to KLX ribbon cable becoming dislodged during shipping which caused the cable to hang down which can obstruct the movement of the track and wrist movements.

A corrective action is in place that has a clip that keeps the cable in the channel during shipping and the clip is removed before you power the library up.

Anything that obstructs the track or wrist motion could cause these issues.
