Please Note: The information in this document is also applicable to ZFSSA systems deployed within Engineered Systems (Exalogic, SuperCluster etc.)
An error is seen in the "maintenance - problems" screen of the BUI with a description like: Properties: ChangesAdding a new DS2 (AKA RW2) disk tray containing Gen4 Logzilla SSDs may also cause this error to be shown. CauseThis error means that the JBOD identified in the alert is somehow misconfigured - most likely due to a faulty piece of hardware contained within it. Please check the 'usual suspects' ... missing or faulted disks, SSDs or SIMs. A common cause of this error is a disk that has failed in such a way that it is reported as "absent" rather than "faulted" in the configuration. The problem may also be a faulty SIM or a SIM with mismatched firmware to the other SIM in the JBOD. Check this by reviewing the hardware configuration in the BUI: Maintenance > hardware Select the correct JBOD identified by the <Serial Number> in the alert and click on "Show Details" Alternatively in CLI type: S7000:> maintenance hardware list S7000: maintenance hardware> select chassis-00X show where chassis-00X is the chassis with the name identified in the alert. Another cause of this alert can happen when new hardware is added like the new DS2 (aka RW2) disk tray that contains new Gen 4 Logzilla SSD devices and the appliance software version is not at the proper revision to support the new devices in this case for the Gen 4 logzilla the software version must be 2011.04.24.4.0 or above.
NOTE: If, after reviewing the configuration, no hardware issues are found, 'Mark Repaired' the associated 'problem' in the BUI or CLI.
SolutionIf a disk is marked as absent, then check it is seated correctly. Try reseating it and see if it comes back online. If a SIM is faulted or has mismatched firmware also try reseating this. Before reseating a SIM first check that you have a valid second path to the disks in the JBOD. This can be seen from the BUI: maintenance > hardware Check the number of PATHS listed against the appropriate disk shelf. or from CLI: S7000: maintenance hardware select chassis-00X show where chassis-00X is the name of the chassis identified in the alert. The number of paths is listed under Properties: If reseating does not fix the issue, then raise a Service Request with Oracle Support to get the issue investigated and/or the problem part replaced. If the cause of the alert was adding newer hardware like the Gen4 Logzilla SSDs , then the solution is to upgrade to a appliance software version that supports the newer hardware for the Gen 4 ssd drives 2011.04.24.4.0 or higher. is required. It is always best practice to ensure the array is at the latest released appliance software version before adding any new hardware.
For more information on the Gen4 Logzilla SSD issue, see MOS Document ID 1982840.1 (Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance: Earlier Appliance Releases Will Not Recognize 200G Logzilla).
