Symptoms

Elevator fails to initialize.

RC7012, Result code 7012

Error 3955

2012-08-23T07:46:40.866    1.0.54.2.0    root    default    internal    0    error    3955    "Error from device Code: 701 - Move failed - Device inoperative"  Data=<response sequence="324129" final="true"><command>initialize</command><result identifier="1"><resultStatus><resultSeverity>error</resultSeverity><resultCode>7012</resultCode><resultText><!|CDATA|Bad init range for vaderb: actual=55835 mils, expected=56869 +/- 600; ||></resultText><operationalState>701</operationalState></resultStatus></result></response>    UNKNOWN

The elevator would go all the way up and then all the way down and then fail.  This generally eliminates the HBZ and motor as suspects.

Cause

 The problem was the metal tab on the rear of the elevator array was bent and hitting the lower clamping collar that retains the column. This caused the short travel noted in the log.

Solution

Bend the tab slightly to resolve the problem.
