Symptoms

 Customers will find that incremental backups will not work when setting up incremental backups through the BUI on EBS.

 

Cause

This is due to the fact that the scheduled backup doesn't send the correct level directive - it relies on receiving the metadata (list of files, last update time of files etc) of the filesystem in question to decide what to backup incrementally.

Backup types ZFS don't generate this - due to way it works.  So Networker always will pass a level 0 backup.

 

Solution

 Manual command line backups do pass the correct backup level.


The workaround options are :

o Schedule command line backups using cron

o Use 'tar' type backup instead of 'zfs' type backups
