Applies to:

Sun StorageTek SL3000 Modular Library System - Version Not Applicable and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

SL Console and the front display will not allow a log in.

When logging in, get this message: Cannot connect to server

I was able to log in to the serial connection without a problem.

Cause

 Defective Op Panel, PN 7012966.

Solution

The Op panel and the SLC both operated when the system was turned over to the customer originally.

Did you try to stool ssh the sl3000 from your laptop ? (ssh test)
1. No I did not try to ssh into Library- however we could ues the serial connection to log in.

Did you try both service and admin users on local op panel?
2. Yes I tried both users on the local op panel and through SL Console. Both gave the same "Cannot connect to server". However both worked with the serial connection.

Did you check the ethernet plug is ok on the op panel (can be 2 separated problems - op panel problem can be != than network connectivity problem)
3. Yes we checked the Op Panel ethernet connectivity.

Resolution:

Here is what we found out. Disconnecting the Op Panel ethernet cable and then resetting the power for the library we Had some luck.

1st the SL console started working.

2nd Then we plugged in the Op Panel and it still said , " sever not available".

The SL console continued to work with out issue.

The fix is to replace the Operator Panel.
