Solution Type Problem Resolution Sure Solution 1484207.1 : SL8500 - Internal Ethernet 3Com Lan Switch or ILC 3Com Switch Does Not Power Up After Being Powered Down or Intermittent Communication Errors With Various Components in Library
In this Document
Oracle Confidential PARTNER - Available to partners (SUN). Applies to:Sun StorageTek SL8500 Modular Library System - Version Not Applicable and laterInformation in this document applies to any platform. SymptomsMajority of components within the SL8500 communicate with the HBC/HBCR card via the internal Lan switch, examples; HBT-->HBCR, HBZ-->HBCR, PTP-->HBCR. The exception is rail communication which uses the rail-net via the HBS module. If components are not able to communicate with the Library Controller HBCR card operations will be severely impacted or stop completely but the Handbots all appear to be online. No LEDs illuminated on the internal 3Com switch or the ILC switch, not able to login to the local Operator Panel but can login remotely, missing drive folder in the SLC device tree, Cap and/or elevator missing or has a red icon in the SLC device tree, all mounts stop occurring, PTP operations stop or go offline in SLC, etc. CauseDefective power supply inside the original 3Com switch or other internal failure. SolutionUpgrade to the 2nd generation Ethernet Switch; PUE PN_419951602 <PN_7025036> during the next scheduled maintenance window. The PUE is a 32 port switch with dual power supplies that eliminates the need for the APC AC switch for 2N power configuration support. Note: The internal Lan switch is located in the top right quadrant of the DEM behind the smoke detector. Refer to the attached file for PUE Conversion Bill Installation Instructions.
