Symptoms

One drive sees tapes as "write protected".
Load / Unload failures detected on the same drive........Check the error warn info event log

Drive mechanism failed to "write enable" the tapes / Cartridges.. Tapes are perceived as "write protected"

Cause

Drive sensor is defective.

Solution

All tapes reported as "WRITE PROTECTED" when loaded.

Replaced the drive to fix this problem.
