Sun StorageTek SL8500 Modular Library System - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

After replacing the card cage, the library is reporting "New HBK security key needed"

Changes

The card cage had to be replaced because pins were damaged while replacing the HBC and HBY cards.
During the swap of the card cages, the HBK card was left out and was not put into the new card cage.  The SL8500 was then rebooted without the HBK card.

Cause

The HBK card may not have been seated properly or it may have damaged pins causing it to not communicate with the HBC module.

Solution

If the library is getting "New HBK security key needed", this indicates that the HBC is not communicating with the HBK module.
The HBK module contains the backup configuration information and needs to be synchronized with the HBC.  If not in sync with the HBK,
a HBC failure may cause the library not to boot up successfully.

Check the HBK card and the card cage for seating issues.  Also check the HBC card, the HBK card and the card cage for damaged pins.
If problems with damaged pins, replace the associated card component.
