Users connecting to virtualized Windows desktops hosted within Oracle's Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environment may report poor 'erase' performance when holding down the Backspace key on 3rd party keyboards attached to a Sun Ray Client device.

In this scenario, users may report that the key works as expected, but repeat performance is impacted.   Specifically:  users that tap the backspace key 20 times will remove 20 characters as expected.  However, simply holding the ky down will result in slower-than-expected performance, about 1 second between each character.

Additional Information:

• This behavior has been reproduced on VDI 3.3.1, 3.3.2, and 3.4
• If VDI is bypassed (the VDI/SRSS administrator will need to do this) so that the user logs into the host system's Solaris 10 Default Desktop (JDS) instead of VDI assigned desktop, similar behavior will be seen from any command line applications.  (Such as dtterm).
  • Changing the Keyboard autorepeat parameters directly within JDS does not resolve the problem.
• This behavior is most commonly seen using Dell keyboards, such as SK-8115.
• This behavior is specific to the Sun Ray Client, and is not seen when using these keyboards on another platform, and using the Oracle Virtual Desktop Client to connect to the VDI server.

Cause

This behavior is caused by the use of unsupported / untested keyboards with Sun Ray Client devices. 

Solution

 The solution to this behavior is to use a supported Oracle/Sun branded keyboard with the Sun Ray Client device.
