Solution Type Problem Resolution Sure Solution 1471121.1 : Some or all internal disks in SPARC T3 / T4 Servers may not show up in "# format" or "ok> probe-scsi-all"
In some factory configurations of T3 or T4 Servers none or not all internal disks may be visible in probe-scsi-all or format. In this Document
Applies to:SPARC T3-1 - Version All Versions and laterSPARC T4-2 - Version All Versions and later Sun Storage 6Gb SAS PCIe HBA, 8 Port - Version Not Applicable and later SPARC T3-2 - Version All Versions and later SPARC T4-1 - Version All Versions and later Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit) Checked for relevance on 14-Jan-2014 SymptomsCommon Symptoms are: - Cannot see any or more than one disk in "# format" or "ok> probe-scsi-all" although more than one physical disk is installed /pci@400/pci@2/pci@0/pci@c/LSI,mrsas@0/disk
CauseSPARC T3/T4 Systems may come configured with internal Disk Backplane connected to a 8-Port 6Gbps SAS-2 RAID HBA (Niwot). SolutionThe physical disks connected to 8-Port 6Gbps SAS-2 RAID HBA need to be configured.1) If a running Solaris instance is available, go to LSI Support Webpage http://www.lsi.com/sep/Pages/oracle/sg_x_sas6-r-int-z.aspx to download Software required to operate the 8-Port 6Gbps SAS-2 RAID HBA. The HBA may be operated in CLI mode with MegaCLI or in GUI mode with MegaRAID Storage Manager. 2) If there is no Solaris instance on the Server - or the disks need to be reconfigured before reinstallation of the OS - the disks can be configured using the PreBoot CLI (pcli) at OBP. - use the show-disks command to identify the path to the 8-Port 6Gbps SAS-2 RAID HBA

cli -PdList |
Lists all physical drives. |
cli -CfgLdAdd |
Creates a RAID logical drive. |
cli -CfgLdDel |
Deletes a logical drive. |
cli -LdPdInfo |
Displays information about logical drives. |
cli -AdpAllInfo |
Displays HBA configuration information. |
- to display Information about the selected HBA, type the command cli -AdpAllInfo
Example:
- type cli -PdList to identify Enclosure Device ID and physical drives
Example:
- type cli -CfgLdAdd -r0[252:0]
This will create a single disk LUN ( -r0 for RAID 0, with Enclosure #252 physical disk Slot 0 ).
- to display Information about the newly created LUN, type cli -LdInfo -L0
Example:
- type unselect-dev when you are finished configuring LUNs
- type the OBP command probe-scsi-all to verify that the newly created LUN is visible in OBP
- an existing Solaris instance might need to be reconfigured (e.g. with command devfsadm) to display the newly created LUN in format
More information about using the PreBoot CLI can be found in the "Sun Storage 6 Gb SAS PCIe RAID HBA, Internal Installation Guide For HBA Models SGX-SAS6-R-INT-Z and SG-SAS6-R-INT-Z", http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E19221-01/index.html
