Symptoms

Common Symptoms are:

- Cannot see any or more than one disk in "# format" or "ok> probe-scsi-all" although more than one physical disk is installed
- No error messages are generated by the Operating System and "probe-scsi-all"
- OBP command "ok> show-disks" displays path to disks with "LSI,mrsas" in it, example:

/pci@400/pci@2/pci@0/pci@c/LSI,mrsas@0/disk

Cause

SPARC T3/T4 Systems may come configured with internal Disk Backplane connected to a 8-Port 6Gbps SAS-2 RAID HBA (Niwot).
This HBA does not present connected physical disks to the Operation System.
Sometimes one LUN with Preinstalled Solaris image is configured and visible but the remaining internal disks are not.
The physical disks need to be configured in order for the Operating System and "probe-scsi-all" to see them.

Solution

The physical disks connected to 8-Port 6Gbps SAS-2 RAID HBA need to be configured.

1) If a running Solaris instance is available, go to LSI Support Webpage http://www.lsi.com/sep/Pages/oracle/sg_x_sas6-r-int-z.aspx to download Software required to operate the 8-Port 6Gbps SAS-2 RAID HBA. The HBA may be operated in CLI mode with MegaCLI or in GUI mode with MegaRAID Storage Manager.

2) If there is no Solaris instance on the Server - or the disks need to be reconfigured before reinstallation of the OS - the disks can be configured using the PreBoot CLI (pcli) at OBP.

- use the show-disks command to identify the path to the 8-Port 6Gbps SAS-2 RAID HBA
