Created from <SR 3-5786574881>

Applies to:

Oracle Database Appliance - Version All Versions and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.
Database Appliance Install hanging on startx command

Symptoms

During initial install of the ODA (Oracle Database Appliance) the 'startx' command hangs.

Cause

xinitrc will not start X at run-level 3 on ODA

Solution

To check run level enter command 'who -r'

It will return output similar to: run-level 3  2012-06-04 11:22  last=3

Run 'init 5' and move server to run-level 5 to allow X to start

Once at run-level 5, 'startx' will run successfully.

NOTE: The server will NOT reboot when the 'init 5' command is run.

It will move the server to run-level 5 for the install.  Any subsequent reboot will return the server to the default run-level of 3.
