Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Tapes are getting mounted but load operation completes with error.
Tapes can be dismounted with the force option in ACSLS or HSC.

During a load operation, the library reports error 6415 - "The load failed and the cartridge is still present"

The following error messages are  reported on the library event log:

Cause

Media issues ( like bad cartridge cage or missing leader pin ) can cause this problem.

 

Solution

A CSE will be needed to resolve this issue.  Open up a Service Request with symptoms being supplied along with a Log Snapshot to verify the problem.

Run diagnostic test on the drives reporting the 6415 error.

If a failing drive passes the diagnostic tests, try reseating the drives.
(It might not be properly seated on the drive tray.)

If a drive fails the tests, replace the drive.

Ask the customer to check the tapes for problems like bad cartridge cage or missing leader pin.
(The tape's volume label can be found in the library event log error message. See examples above.)
