Symptoms

Scenario #1

There are two different 2.5 ODA patchsets available for download:

2.5.0.0.0
2.5.5.0.0.

Which one of the above patches should I use?
Do I apply 2.5.5.0 on top of 2.5.0.0?

Scenario #2

I am seeing one of the following Problems attempting to install patchset or iso for ODA 2.5

Boot problem after image and attempted deployment
Unable to boot ODA from ILOM using redirect

Changes

Just now moving to ODA version 2.5

Cause

Scenario #1

ODA V1 can only uses the 2.5.0.0.0 patchset
ODA 3-2 can only use the 2.5.5.0.0 Patchset

2.5.5 is not an upgrade to 2.5

Scenario #2

I you apply the wrong patchset on the wrong ODA HW version you will not be able to successfully upgrade, deploy or patch the ODA

Solution

This problem requires the following Unique ODA Factors

X3-2 vs V1
ODA version 2.5.x

You should never install 2.5 on X4-2 - it was never tested or supported as X4-2 was released much later (2.7 and higher)

The unique patch numbering for the ODA of x.5.0 vs. x.5.5 only happened for this single patchset level
As of 2.6 and higher you use the same single patch for any HW version

Downloads of the current 2.5x version of ODA were based on the specific Hardware used: Specifically

The newest HW release of ODA X2-3 only supports 2.5.5.0.0 -- note the 2.5.5.0.0 << 5.5

The original ODA V1 only supports 2.5.0.0.0 -- note the 2.5.0.0.0 << 5.0

Bug 16672769 - iso image 2.5.5.0 can be installed on oda v1 and no warning is generated

Comment: It is possible to download the incorrect version of ODA if you only review the first two-digits of the patch which match at 2.5.x.x.x

ODA 2.5.5 (X3-2) -- this is Version 2 which uses 3 (or 4) separate Physical components
ODA 2.5 (X4370m2) -- Version (V1) is the original self-contained single physical ODA unit

After downloading and apply ODA 2.5.5 on a V1 ODA you receive no errors or warnings but the installation fails
this can happen from ILOM, after install but fails during deployment and variations during the installation process

The failure usually generates no warning

There is only one solution if you are applying 2.5.x: Apply the correct ODA patchset level based on V1 or X3-2 HW for 2.5

We are in the process of creating a script to provide warnings for those who have downloaded the incorrect version of 2.5.5. and attempted to apply on ODA V1
Likewise, you cannot apply 2.5.0.0.0 on ODA X3-2

Comment: Please review download and confirm version numbers and associated patches to make sure the proper versions are used for the proper HW

===========

Skip ODA version 2.5x and apply 2.10 or higher
