Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

On a Windows 7/10 system, SD VOP fails to Collect Support Logs, Retrieve Dumps/ID/Perm to a File due to folder permissions issues. This can affect retrieval of T10000, 9x40, and LTO (Bell and Dione) files. No transcript files are being created.

This only affects the single drive version of VOP.

Changes

Any version of VOP running on a Windows 7/10 Platform.

Cause

This is happening because the C:\Program Files (x86)\VOP folder is is set with the read only attribute after VOP is installed on a Windows 7 system.

Solution

Workaround:
Ensure that your installation folder is set for full permissions. The process below will step you through how to do this. You will need to know the path to your installation folder. If you are unsure where your installation folder is located, find the VOP icon on your desktop, right click it, and display Properties.

  1. Right Click on the folder in program files where VOP is installed. (e.g.  C:\Program Files (x86)\Multi Drive VOP)
  2. Click Properties.
  3. Select the Security tab and click the Advanced tab.
  4. Click to highlight the row that says Users(user_name).
  5. Click Change Permissions.
  6. Click the box that says" Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object."
  7. Click to highlight the row that says Users(user_name).
  8. Click Edit.
  9. On the new screen ensure that the Apply To: dropdown says " This folder, subfolders, and files".
  10. Click to check the box for Full Permissions.
  11. Click Ok.
  12. It will take back to the previous screen.
  13. Click Apply
  14. You will get a message that talks about inheritable permissions from the MD VOP CSE folder.
  15. Click Yes.
  16. You are done. All folders under the MD VOP CSE folder will now have full permissions. You should now get transcripts and be able to retrieve dumps.

Notes:
If you go back and check the properties of the VOP folder after following the above process it may show  that read only set again however VOP should now retrieve log files.

If this workaround does not work for you then copy the latest set of transcript files and send to support for analysis. Note that if yours is is a file permissions problem you may not have any transcript files in the transcript folder. Collect Transcripts may not work if this is a file permissions problem.
