Symptoms

While using Sun Storage Common Array Manager (CAM) 6.9 to upgrade the firmware on a drive model ST330057SSUN300G or ST360057SSUN600G from 0605 to 0A25, CAM returns the following error:

Incompatible firmware image. Skipping Tray.X Slot.Z

Note: This problem has no functional impact to the drive and array.

Cause

Every drive firmware file bundled with CAM has a header including an "upgrade path". The "upgrade path" enables CAM to determine if the firmware currently installed on the drive can be upgraded to the target level.
Unfortunately the firmware files bundled in CAM 6.9 for these specific drive models ST330057SSUN300G and ST360057SSUN600G do not include the firmware 0605 in this "upgrade path".

Note: This issue only applies to the StorageTek 2500 Arrays and Sun Storage 2500-M2 Arrays with the drive model ST330057SSUN300G or ST360057SSUN600G running the firmware 0605 and with CAM 6.9.

Solution

The problem is resolved with installation of the following patches into CAM 6.9. The minimum version required is listed. Any subsequent version contains the fix as well.

147660-03    Solaris
147661-02    Windows
147662-02    Linux

Please refer to the <Document 1296274.1> for the procedure to download these patches.
