Symptoms

Fan failure messages may be seen and present on a single blade in the blade chassis housing.
In the following example, we show errors on the blade in slot 1. Other blades in the chassis operate normally.

Checking the ILOM logs we see that messages indicating fan faults are logged:

Cause

Possible Causes:

Blade firmware issue or chassis firmware issue
Loose seating of the blade module
Slot issue on the chassis defective blade

Note:
There are many blades in the chassis and only the blade on the slot 1 reports the issue. The fan modules are on the chassis and not on the blade.

Solution

Actions to Perform to Attempt to Resolve:

Reseat the affected blade. This will ensure that the blade is properly seated and iLOM is power cycled
Swap the blade to a slot that is working. This would ensure that we can isolate if the issue is with blade module or the slot itself
Confirm that the blades and Chassis Management Module (CMM) are on the latest available firmware

In this case the issue was resolved after the blade was reseated.
