Applies to:

Sun Blade 6000 System - Version Not Applicable and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.
Web page shows "too many users logged in"
CLI shows "maximum number of sessions exhausted"

Symptoms

Attempts to login to CMM or ILOM fail with the following error message:

Web page shows "too many users logged in"
CLI shows "maximum number of sessions exhausted"

Cause

The CMM and ILOM  offers 10 local user accounts.

If the user does not log out of the CMM or ILOM session and then connects again, the amount of available sessions will be deceased by one.

If the user continues connecting new sessions without logging out of existing sessions, all sessions will be exhausted.

To avoid such scenarios, customers may enable session timeout. Select an inactivity time-out for this session. If your session is inactive for the selected time, you will be logged out automatically.            Minimum of 15mins to Maximum of 3 hours.

Solution

For CMM:

Log into a blade in the chassis that has ipmitool installed:

root@blade1 # ipmitool -H <CMM IP address> -U root bmc reset cold
Password:
Sent cold reset command to MC
root@blade1 #

IPMItool information:

http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E19860-01/index.html

Oracle Integrated Lights Out Manager (ILOM) 3.0 SNMP, IPMI, CIM, WS-MAN Protocol Management Reference

or

Connect to the CMM serial managment port and reset the CMM.

-> reset /CMM

If either the serial port or ipmitool BMC reset fails to reset the CMM, you may remove and replace
the CMM from a powered-off system or from a powered-on system using a hot-swap procedure.
The chassis will be unmanageable while you replace the CMM hardware.
This will reset the CMM ending all current sessions.

For ILOM:

Connect to the Blade by inserting the dongle cable into the universal connector port (UCP) on the server
module front panel and reset the SP

-> reset /SP

Consult the Blade Server Module Installation Guide for your specfic Blade to get more  information on attaching devices to the Server using a dongle cable.

If you are remote from the system you may attempt to use ipmitool to reset the ILOM.

# ipmitool bmc reset cold

If either the serial port or BMC reset fails to reset the ILOM, an outage will be required.

1. Shutdown O/S gracefully.
2. Power off system.
3. Pull power cords from system, or pull blade from chassis, wait 30 seconds.
4. Plug power cords back in, or plug blade into chassis, wait from ILOM to boot, and power on system.
