Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

KMS 1.x unable to start postgresql database

Following issues will cause the database to fail to start.
Check show_status 
If PostgreSQL Server: down

NOTE:
Only applies to 1.0,  1.1,  1.2,  and 1.2.1  KMS versions.


Cause

Other issues that cause database to not start.

Check postmaster.pid file does not exist
This should not exist if postgres is down

cd /export/home/kms/db/pgsql/data

ls -al

If postmaster.pid   exists, delete the file,  rm postmaster.pid

Also when trying to start postgresql
ERROR
PostgreSQL = pg_ctl: invalid data in PID file, also indication the file already exists

For any other conditions check the postgresql logfile
/export/home/kms/db/pqsql/data/logfile

Solution

Check SUNWkms package files are not corrupt

run pkgchk -l
on following packages
SUNWkmsoss
SUNWkms
SUNWkmssys

Confirm no errors.
If pkgchk fails recommend to replace the KMA server, and restore database from USB drive.
