Symptoms

Customer receives a message on their system, FSC3E41 or FSC3E42 Conditional Capacity Low Threshold Reached.  This will be in the form of a SIM message.

SLS6659I VTSS VSM5 SIM:0010100000008 FE0629000039E009A1041030EF400003E4105104202F2050FFF

Cause

FSC 3E41 and FSC 3E42 are reported at the detection of collected free space being only 5% or 2.5%, respectively.

Solution

Monitor subsystem with the following VTCS commands to verify whether the DBU is going down or needs attention:

  • D VTSS(vtssname) DET - Monitor DBU%
  • D ACT DET - Verify there are active migrates for the VSM
  • D Q DET - Verify if there are any queued processes that may be hanging up migrates for the VSM
  • D LOCK - Verify if there are any locked processes
  • D RTD - Verify the RTDs are OK
  • D MIGR DET

Check for any error messages issued by VTCS or HSC that may indicate a problem with the library or RTDs or FREE MVC counts.  Verify from the display outputs that migrations are active and running or if migrations are queued behind any other task. It may be necessary to halt the initiators to prevent jobs from allocating VTDs on the VTSS until the DBU has decreased enough.

Please note: The above VTCS commands are in the format for ELS 7.0 and higher.  VTCS 6.2 and lower require use of the VTCS command prefix, which is VT.  For example, VT D RTD.
