Symptoms
PTP is not functional.
Common Result Codes
-
0901 Pass-thru Port failed - PTP determined to be not operative
-
0902 Pass-thru Port failed a Move - Retry is possible
-
0903 Pass-thru Port failed - Door Open Detected, Amps are disabled
-
-
9601 A retry was needed to complete the move-ptp request
-
9602 Failed to get a mech's range (range not set, mech not initialized)
-
9603 Failed to Recover the PTP from a failure
-
9604 Sensors and/or Slide Position indicate Slide in an Unknown Location at start of move
-
9605 Sensors and/or Slide Position do no indicate PTP moved to its location
-
9606 Home Sensor not detected when at Home location or Sensor detected when not at home location“
-
9607 Away Sensor not detected when at Away location or Sensor detected when not at away location”
Log Examples:

Troubleshooting Steps:
PROBLEM OVERVIEW: PTP is not functional.
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? : PTP will be in an offline status. SL8500 can remain online during this process.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE Customer/Engineer NEED TO TAKE:
Troubleshooting
-
Check HBP log snapshot. The HBP1 log gets all the PTP robot logs on the top rail HBP, the HBP log gets all the PTP robot logs on all the rails. Look for communication issues between the HBC card and the HBP card.
-
Look for result codes indicating a possible with the carriage and related hardware such as servo motors, belts, pullys etc.
-
If the HBP card is failing, replace the PTP mechanism.
-
Be careful when removing/installing the PTP
-
Sharp edges can easily pinch and short cables
-
If +48 Volts in cable shorts, HBF card must be replaced due to failure of non-replaceable fuse on card
-
Do not open door or power off Library or PTP after installing a replacement PTP
-
Code load could be disrupted requiring another PTP
-
Wait for red flashing lights to stop or PTP ready condition
-
If PTP stops working and SL8500 is logging timeouts
-
If no other error in log for PTP, most likely hung reservation
-
Other robotic error may have caused PTP reservation hang
-
If the controller does not clear most stale reservations automatically, a power cycle or reboot of the PTP may be necessary
-
Both the Home and Away Libraries need to complete initialization and audit of the PTPs before all PTPs will show green status in SLC
-
Common failures in event log can be caused by:
-
Stretched belt
-
Bad sensors – HOME, Away, Parked
-
Bad motors (No movement, current issues)
-
Bad Rollers (binds, over currents)
-
Alignment problems
-
Always inspect cartridge retainers for loose/bent/missing parts when performing Health Check or troubleshooting the PTP
- Perform health check on library via SL Console. - Verify firmware is at current levels. - Review error logs to understand actual PTP failure. - Attempt to place PTP back online via SL Console. - Run SLC Self Test diagnostic to check functionality. - Re-initialize Pass thru Port.
If this does not resolve the issue, a Service request will need to be opened for Customer Service Engineer to resolve the issue.. Acquire a Log Snapshot to verify issue and enter into the SR. Reference this Knowledge Entry.
- If not fixed, replace PTP FRU. - Record specific error code and messages associated with failure in case notes. - Record all relevant visual observations of error in case notes. - Record final fix in case notes.
CONFIRM THE Fix by: Check status of PTP using SL Console
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE: The SL8500 should have remained online during this activity. The PTP will need to be brought online if after it is replaced status indicates it's offline.
