Symptoms

To discuss this information further with Oracle experts and industry peers, we encourage you to review, join or start a discussion in the My Oracle Support Community - Disk Storage ZFS Storage Appliance Community

  • Resilvering runs for a very long time.
  • Resilvering reports 100% progress, but does not complete.
  • Scrub/resilver causes systemic slowdown.

Changes

N/A

Cause

Since we have sequential resilvering in the 2013.1.2 Release, there is no obvious report of such issues.

Any 'new' issues should be reported to Oracle Support.

NOTE: There are many factors that can affect the resilvering performance:

  • ZFS pool profile (mirror, RAID level etc.)
  • Size of the ZFS pool
  • Amount of I/O on the pool
  • Snapshot and Replication activity

Solution

Steps to follow:

Upgrade system software to the latest applicable Appliance Firmware Release for your system type. Enhancements to resilvering performance are included in later versions.

If still unsuccessful in completing resilver, pause any scheduled replication or snapshot jobs.   After the "100%" mark of the resilver progress, the system is exclusively working on the new snapshots.

Creating additional snapshots, either directly or via replication, will delay the completion of the resilver.

NOTE: 'Fast resilvering' functionality is included in Appliance Firmware Release 2013.1.1.0 (and later).  To take advantage of this enhancement, you must upgrade to 2013.1.1.0 (or later) and deferred updates must be applied.
