Symptoms

On Exadata Quarter Rack systems, running "verify-topology -n" reports wrong/misleading information for external switch:

Running /opt/oracle.SupportTools/ibdiagtools/verify-topology -n...

Is every external switch connected to every internal switch..........[SUCCESS]

Are any external switches connected to each other....................[ERROR]

Are any hosts connected to spine switch..............................[ERROR]



External Switch 0x212nnnnnnnn has host <hostname> wrongly connected! [ERROR]

Cause

The incorrect syntax was used when running the command verify-topology on a Quarter Rack Exadata system since quarter racks will do not have a spine switch.

Solution

The syntax for the verify-topology command for a Quarter Rack should be ran as follows:

./verify-topology -t quarterrack

Output should look like:

/opt/oracle.SupportTools/ibdiagtools/verify-topology -t quarterrack
