Symptoms
Spurious SCSI transport warning messages appear after OS install. This only occurs on the following drive: 73GB SEAGATE PN: 9Y4066-134 MODEL: ST973401SS SUN BASE PN: 390-0213-04 SUN FRU ASSY PN: 540-6611-01
Cause
SCSI transport warning messages appear after installing the operating system. If an customer sees the following after installing the operating system, there is nothing wrong with the Sun Fire[TM] T2000, and it will function properly:
scsi: WARNING: /pci@780/pci@0/pci@9/scsi@0/sd@0,0 (sd1):
SCSI transport failed: reason 'reset': retrying command
scsi: WARNING: /pci@780/pci@0/pci@9/scsi@0/sd@0,0 (sd1):
Error for Command: write(10) Error Level: Retryable
scsi: Requested Block: XXXXXXX Error Block: XXXXXXXX
scsi: Vendor: SEAGATE Serial Number: XXXXXXXXXX
scsi: Sense Key: Unit Attention
scsi: ASC: 0x29 (scsi bus reset occurred), ASCQ: 0x2, FRU: 0x2
scsi: WARNING: /pci@780/pci@0/pci@9/scsi@0/sd@0,0 (sd1):
Error for Command: write(10) Error Level: Retryable
scsi: Requested Block: XXXXXXXX Error Block: XXXXXXXX
scsi: Vendor: SEAGATE Serial Number: XXXXXXXX
scsi: Sense Key: Unit Attention
scsi: ASC: 0x29 (scsi bus reset occurred), ASCQ: 0x2, FRU: 0x2
Solution
Resolution
Ignore warning messages
This warning is caused by an extra "Unit Attention" frame sent by the HBA after very large files are written to the disk, and again, there is nothing wrong with the T2000 system or the Seagate HDD. This only occurs on the following HDDs:
73GB SEAGATE PN: 9Y4066-134 MODEL: ST973401SS
SUN BASE PN: 390-0213-04 SUN FRU ASSY PN: 540-6611-01
Relief/Workaround
Ignore these messages
