Symptoms

Sun Fire[TM] V1280, Netra[TM] 1280, and Sun Fire[TM] 3800-6800 systems may
generate the following message after an error has occurred on the system.

Jan 11 05:44:41 my-sc0 Platform.SC: [ID 585636 local0.error] The error buffer is full

Cause

Starting with firmware version 5.13.0, a static error buffer was implemented in the Sun Fire System Controller to capture initial error events that might otherwise be lost. Because of the design to capture initial error messages, the errors are not discarded in a "First In First Out" manner as are the messages which are seen when showlogs is issued.

The buffer has a finite size, and as a result, should be cleared after a service action where significant errors were reported by showlogs.

Solution

Service personnel should obtain a service mode password and issue the clearerrorbuffer command from service mode.
