STUCK Cartridges with Seagate LTO drives in L40 and L80 libraries. Error seen on Libraries is FSC 3087. Upon opening the door to the library, the hand is found with a cartridge that is partially in the hand and partially ejected from the drive.
Cause
Certain drive tape combinations can develop high extraction forces that can cause the library to fail with FSC 3087 during an eject.
Solution
Stuck tape in Quantum/Seagate LTO drive:
Drives that are currently running may experience this error as time passes and wear and debris occur. In some cases the event may be a one-time occurrence and never repeat.
If a STUCK CARTRIDGE occurs in an L40/L80 using SEAGATE LTO drives, please perform the following before replacing the drive.
Install 2.07.00 Firmware or higher. Previous versions of library code would apply unnecessary upward force on the cartridge and could cause debris generation.
Inspect the bezel areas for debris or cartridge deposit (white dust). The outward parts of the flange have been determined in some cases to be too low. If debris is found on the bezel flanges, clean off debris from these areas, and then gently bend up these outward corner areas, so they no longer interfere with the cartridge during insertion/extraction.
Check cartridges for excessive debris and clean off if necessary.
If the problem persists, replace the drive with Drive FRU.
