SolutionResolution
There has been continued improvement in the SL8500 microcode to better handle high corner track activity but we still have some exposure to excessive motor heat build up that can impact library operations. The two SL8500 motors impacted are the Track and STrack Motors. Extended testing of a PTP during installation testing that does not include a move out of the corner periodically could also overheat the track motors. Engineering recommends a move out of the corner, i.e. move from column 14 to the PTP, if extended PTP testing is required. This change in the recommended install diagnostic routine is due to in-house testing and investigations performed by Library Engineering. This exposure does not typically occur during normal customer operations due to delays usually associated with corner gets and puts, i.e. get from a cell in column 6 to a drive or a get from a PTP to drive.
