Solution Type Problem Resolution Sure Solution 1013663.1 : SL8500 - PTP Cable Mis-Routing Causing PTP Initialization Failure
PreviouslyPublishedAs 219282 Oracle Confidential PARTNER - Available to partners (SUN). Reason: Confidential for Partners and Oracle Support personnel Applies to:Sun StorageTek SL8500 Modular Library System - Version Not Applicable and laterAll Platforms SymptomsPTP will not initialize Changes{CHANGE} CauseCable was mis-routed in manufacturing. SolutionResolution Field reports and internal audits have confirmed a potential problem associated with the PTP Switch Motor Cable not being routed properly in manufacturing. The mis-routed cable harness is under the mechanism deck and can short against a sharp edge in the metal chassis of the SL8500 PTP bay. The shorted out PTP cable harness can cause PTP initialization errors. Recommendation: Recommend the PTP assembly be pulled out of the SL8500 frame and the PTP bay inside the library be inspected per the attachments; re-route and secured the associated cable harness if necessary as illustrated in the attached. ** It should not be necessary to inspect PTP's already installed and in production, the short would typically occur soon after installation and testing.
Final Corrective action: Corrective action was implemented 8/2006 in manufacturing and internal audits were completed. Refer to the attached photo examples of error and photo of correct routing.
