The IBM LTO Ultrium SCSI Reference Manual specifies that the read/write command timeout value is 18 minutes for both Gen-1 and Gen-2 drives. Adding drive specific entries to the st.conf will change the system timeout value to 2 minutes. If a command has not completed within the timeout window the host system will then send an abort which causes the job to abend.

Resolution
Install the latest st patch for Solaris to ensure IBM LTO native support. Remove or comment out any drive specific entries in the st.conf file.
