Solution Type Problem Resolution Sure Solution 1012774.1 : On Sun StorEdge 35xx Arrays running 3.27R firmware, setting the value 'Auto Global Spare' to enabled may result in existing Logical Drives to be lost
PreviouslyPublishedAs 217545 Applies to:Sun Storage 3510 FC Array - Version Not Applicable and laterSun Storage 3511 SATA Array - Version Not Applicable and later Sun Storage 3310 Array - Version Not Applicable and later Sun Storage 3320 SCSI Array - Version Not Applicable and later All Platforms SymptomsOn a Sun StorEdge 3310/3320/3510/3511 array, logical drives may be lost if the auto-global-spare attribute is enabled. This will occur when a disk, in an existing logical drive, is marked as "NONE BAD" and the array is rebooted. Upon reboot, the disk will become a global spare and the Logical Disk will be lost.
ChangesThe only change is the failure of a disk. The sccli command show disks will report something similar to the output for disk Id 1. sccli> show disks
Ch Id Size Speed LD Status IDs Rev ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2(3) 0 136.73GB 200MB ld0 ONLINE <vendor> 0207 S/N 3HY065RD00007308 2(3) 1 0GB 200MB NONE BAD <vendor> 0207 S/N 3HY0CGR100007328
CauseThe cause is due to a bug in the 3.27R firmware on the 35xx arrays. SolutionSun Alert <Document 1001052.1 > Logical Drives May be Lost if "auto-global-spare" is Enabled discusses the problem in great detail. The immediate solution is to disable the auto global spare attribute. This can be done in the telet/tip interface by "view and edit Configuration Parameters -> Drive-side Parameters -> Auto-Assign Global Spare Drive," -> set the value for "Auto-Global Spare" -> "disable".
You can also set the attribute with the sccli interface sccli> set drive auto-global-spare disabled
sccli> show drive-parameters spin-up: disabled disk-access-delay: 15s scsi-io-timeout: 30s queue-depth: 32 polling-interval: 30s enclosure-polling-interval: 30s auto-detect-swap-interval: 30s smart: detect-only auto-global-spare: disabled The permanent solution is to upgrade firmware.
