Solution Type Problem Resolution Sure Solution 1011087.1 : Sun StorEdge SE3510FC: Path sometimes fails to recover when fibre cable is unplugged/plugged
PreviouslyPublishedAs 215258 Applies to:Sun Storage 3510 FC Array - Version Not Applicable and laterSun Storage SAN Foundation Software - Version 4.0 and later All Platforms SymptomsUnplug and plug fibre cable on host port directly attached to a Sun StorEdge SE3510FC: the port sometimes remains "NOT CONNECTED". The path remains unusable, as if the cable has not been plugged in. Consequently, multipathing software, such as STMS or VxDMP, would not be able to re-enable the corresponding affected path. This problem has been observed with: - StorEdge SE3510FC dual pathed, direct attached, loop mode, with firmware 3.27R Upon replugging the fibre cable, the FC port was shown to be ONLINE by qlc driver as logged in /var/adm/messages, but "luxadm -e port" would show the port to be "NOT CONNECTED". Unplug/plug fibre to Sun StorEdge SE3510FC path sometimes fails to recover.
Symptoms to look out for:

Found path to 3 HBA ports

Cause
<Bug 15289259> : SUNBT6329824 HOST PORT TO SE3510FC SOMETIMES "NOT CONNECTED" WHEN FIBRE IS UNPLUGGED
CR 6329824 describes this problem. A simple workaround is available.
SolutionThe defect/bug was not resolved in the original test case using Solaris 8 and Array firmware 3.27R
To avoid the issue it is suggested to upgrade to the latest kernel update and patchset for Solaris 8 (or upgrade to Solaris 9). Upgrade to the latest SanFoundation patches. Upgrade the storage array firmware to the latest version 4.X For guidance on upgrading the firmware on the array refer to <Document 1305704.1> How to update Sun Storage 3510, 3511, 3310 or 3320 Controller Firmware The objective of this article is to document a quick workaround.
Execute the following Solaris command "luxadm -e forcelip" on the affected port would also resume the path's operation. For example:
luxadm -e forcelip /devices/pci@8,700000/SUNW,qlc@5,1/fp@0,0:devctl
Check the path resumes operation where "luxadm -e port" command would indicate the port is now "CONNECTED"
Found path to 3 HBA ports
/devices/pci@8,700000/SUNW,qlc@5/fp@0,0:devctl CONNECTED /devices/pci@8,700000/SUNW,qlc@5,1/fp@0,0:devctl CONNECTED <--- /devices/pci@8,600000/SUNW,qlc@2/fp@0,0:devctl CONNECTED
