Symptoms

On Sun Storage 3510 arrays, it was found that Seagate disk firmware upgrades using Patch ID: 114709-07 are successful, however Fujitsu disks firmware upgrades using Patch ID: 116815-07 fail with the error:
"mdload: no disk found to match disk model specified"

Procedures mentioned in the patch readme:

15. Type "./var/sadm/swimages/116815-07/mload <STOREdge3510 IP Address>" at the command prompt.
mload responds with "Please Enter Hostname or IP Address Of 3xxx platform for upgrade:"
    Re-enter the IP <STOREdge3510 IP Address> of your STOREdge3510.

16. Download new firmware to all disks at the same time by typing the following command at the prompt:
       download disk-firmware MAP3147F.1701.fw "MAP3147F SUN146G"
You will receive the following warning. Answer it as below:
WARNING: This is a potentially dangerous operation.
The controller will go offline for several minutes.
Data loss may occur if the controller is currently in use.
Are you sure? y and then wait 4-5 minutes until the prompt appears again.

When trying to use the above, the following error message was generated:

Cause

Root cause of Fujitsu disk firmware upgrade failures is due to a problem with the 'mload' binary file in Patch ID: 116815-07. The mload file is the utility to upgrade the disk drive firmware for the Sun Storage 3510 array.

Solution

While there is no resolution to this issue, the workaround is to use the 'mload' utility found in the patch ID: 114709-07 to upgrade Fujitsu disk drive firmware file MAP3147FSUN.1701 found in the patch ID: 116815-07.
