Solution Type Problem Resolution Sure Solution 1010034.1 : probe-scsi, probe-scsi-all hangs after issuing a Stop-A, on Ultra [TM] machines, or fails with a "bus fault"

CauseIf you look at the OpenBoot[TM] 3.x Command Reference manual, after halting or issuing a stop-A, if you run a probe-scsi or probe-scsi-all it may produce unpredictable results, if a system reset wasn't performed prior to executing the command. SolutionThe OBP (OpenBootPROM) can not control what state the system ends up in when it is halted; therefore, the OBP needs to be reinitialized prior to executing any test commands, like the probe-scsi-all command. Here are the steps you should take prior to running a probe-scsi or a probe-scsi-all: If Solaris[TM] is running, perform a gracefully shut down to run level 0 (boot prompt "ok" prompt) ok setenv auto-boot? false ok reset-all ok probe-scsi \ check your output ok setenv auto-boot? true ok reset-all Notes: 1. The auto-boot variable controls whether or not the system automatically boots after a system reset or when the power is turned on. When set to false, the system will not attempt to boot. When set to true, the system will attempt to boot. 2. When halting a system you attempt to shut down Solaris "cleanly" to ensure that all file systems are unmounted and processes are stopped before the Solaris kernel is rebooted. Issuing a stop-A sequence should only be performed as a last resort.
