Cause

This could happen if PID and/or SID of Drive Channels are changed from default.

There are other potential causes of this issue (with similar symptoms), which can include faulty controllers, other component failures, incorrectly seated components.

Refer to the Reference section below.

Solution

  1. In the example below, the PID and SID on Channel#2 was changed from default.
    sccli> show channels
Ch Type Media Speed Width  PID / SID
    --------------------------------------------
    0 Host  FC(L) 2G    Serial 40 / 41
    1 Host  FC(L) 1G    Serial 42 / 43
    2 Drive FC(L) N/A   Serial 119 / N/A
    3 Drive FC(L) 2G    Serial 14 / 15
    4 Host  FC(L) 2G    Serial 44 / 45
    5 Host  FC(L) 2G    Serial 46 / 47
    6 Host  LAN   N/A   Serial N/A / N/A

  2. You need to set the PID and SID back to default value PID=14 and SID=15.

    • Using a telnet session or a serial session to the array:
      • From the main menu, select "view and edit channelS"
      • Select the channel that needs to be modified.
      • Select "Primary controller scsi id"
      • Set ID to 14, select "NO" at resetting the controller
      • Select the channel that needs to be modified again
      • Select "Secondary controller scsi id"
      • Set ID to 15, select "YES" at resetting the controller
      • Connect to main menu , verify ID settings.
      • Select "system Functions", "Controller maintenance" and "Save nvram to disks"

    • Using sccli:
      sccli> configure channel 2 pid 14 sid 15 -r
      sccli> upload nvram "filename"

  3. Corrected output is:
Ch Type Media Speed Width  PID / SID
    --------------------------------------------
    0 Host  FC(L) 2G    Serial 40 / 41
    1 Host  FC(L) 1G    Serial 42 / 43
    2 Drive FC(L) 2G    Serial 14 / 15
    3 Drive FC(L) 2G    Serial 14 / 15
    4 Host  FC(L) 2G    Serial 44 / 45
    5 Host  FC(L) 2G    Serial 46 / 47
    6 Host  LAN   N/A   Serial N/A / N/A
