Solution Type Problem Resolution Sure Solution 1009229.1 : Offlined A5x00 disks return to online state after LIP
PreviouslyPublishedAs 212769 Applies to:Sun Storage A5000 Array - Version All Versions and laterSun Storage A5200 Array - Version All Versions and later Sun Storage A5100 Array - Version All Versions and later All Platforms *** Checked for relevance on 04-Jul-2014 *** SymptomsDisks that have been placed in an offline state via the luxadm -e offline <path> command are returned to an online state following a luxadm remove of a different disk. ChangesAdministrator actions previously offlined one or more disks. A disk or disks that have been placed in an offline state via the luxadm -e offline <path> command are returned to an online state following a luxadm remove of a different disk. CauseLuxadm command has side affects on unrelated disks. SolutionThe luxadm remove command forces the link to reinitialize, using the Loop Initialization Primitive (LIP) sequence. This LIP process causes all devices to participate in loop initialization. Previously off-lined A5x00 disks will come online. Other commands and actions that can cause similar behavior are the luxadm -e forcelip, luxadm insert,a host reboot or any physical change in the loop.
See the following example which illustrates this behavior.
Firstly see the example of an array without any disks being offline. (note REAR Slot 4 disk is not present)
hostA# luxadm display MINE

Next we will force a loop reset (normaly used to rescan the loop for disks/devices)
