Symptoms
Sometimes in the messages file (/var/adm/messages) or on the console
window, you will get error messages, warnings or notices like the following:

WARNING: /io-unit@f,e1200000/sbi@0,0/SUNW,soc@3,0/SUNW,pln@a0000000,78c789/
ssd@2,3 (ssd43):
Transport error: incomplete

It is then difficult to define which physical disk the warning message
applies to when more than one SSA is connected to the system.

For example, is this c1t2d3, c3t2d3, c2t2d3, or c4t2d3?

Resolution
In the example above, ssd43 is "instance number 43". This number can also
be found in the /etc/path_to_inst file.
To relate these disks to an actual controller, "minor number of slice 0
is equal to the instance_number times 8"
Going back to our example, if the instance number is "43":
ssd43 is (43*8=344)
#ls -Ll c*t2d3s0
crw------- 1 root sys 192,104 Oct 16 08:56 c1t2d3s0
crw------- 1 root sys 192,344 Oct 16 08:56 c2t2d3s0
crw------- 1 root sys 192,584 Oct 16 08:56 c3t2d3s0
crw------- 1 root sys 192,824 Oct 16 08:58 c4t2d3s0
Now, looking at the output, the instance number ssd43 correspond to
c2t2d3s0 (crw------- 1 root sys 192,344 Oct 16 08:56 c2t2d3s0)
