Symptoms

The prtdiag command may fail on Sun Fire[TM] v1280 and E2900 systems running Solaris[TM] 9 or 10 as shown below:

General system failure

Cause

If a 4Gigabit/Sec PCI-X Dual FC Host Adapter (Sun part number 375-3294) is installed in this configuration, the prtdiag failure is due to a know bug (6410800).

NOTE: It has also been reported that Single FC Host Adapters in this same configuration can also encounter this problem. See the Sun Oracle System Handbook for a list of fibre channel adaptors and part numbers.

Solution

Bug ID 6410800 is fixed through new Fcode for Qlogic QLA2462-S card, which is available in Patch ID 123305-01 ("qla246x/qle246x pci-x/pci express dual or single 4gbit fc network adapter firmware fcode bios" patch; it delivers FCode 1.17, BIOS 1.15).

Latest release of Fcode patch at time of writing (August 2014) is 123305-04, which delivers FCode 2.01 (BIOS 2.02).
