Symptoms

The SP of Sun Fire[TM] V20z/V40z systems may have a problem in setting its IP address and this can be observed from LCD display by seeing the IP address as 0.0.0.0 .

When trying to set the IP address manually by the LCD screen the following error message "Service error on set SP IP" is displayed. Resetting the SP using the button on the rear of the machine does  not solve the problem.

Solution

Reset the SP to its factory installed state. The full procedure of resetting the SP to factory default settings is in : <Document 1006397.1> Sun Fire[TM] V20z/V40z: How to reset the Service Processor (SP) to factory defaults.
