Solution

It has been determined that the export mounted to a Suse Linux 9.0 host can be listed without receiving the "Value too large for defined data type" error.

It has also been determined that individual files can be FTP'd to the Solaris host without error.

Below is an ls -l listing on the Suse 9.0 Linux host:

Note the Year/Date (1954-03-11) on below files.

The files that contained a date of  "1954-03-11" corresponded to the "Value too large for defined data type" message on Solaris host.

To resolve the issue on the Solaris host, use the touch -r command on the Suse Linux host to set the date/time of the offending file(s) to that of a reference file:

# touch -r <reference_file> file

After issuing the following command, the date was changed to the referenced file (Year = 1995) and the file(s) were viewable.

This example of the touch command sets the date/time of CMTT10.PFB to that of CMR17.PFB

# touch -r CMR17.PFB CMTT10.PFB
# ls -l CMTT10.PFB
-r-xr-xr-x    1 bnosratm ensc_image    27729 1995-10-11 16:51 CMTT10.PFB

This example of the touch command sets the date/time of all files ending with .PFB to that of CMR17.PFB

# touch -r CMR17.PFB *.PFB
# ls -l *.PFB
