Symptoms

Subnetmask not saved by 'configupload' in Brocade switches

Cause

Brocade switches uses the 'configupload' command to backup switch configuration such as IP address and zone settings. If a switch is replaced, customer can use configdownload command to restore original switch configuration.

Subnetmasks are set via the 'ipAddrSet' command and verified via the 'ipAddrShow' command. Below is an example.

sw3900a:root> ipAddrSet
Ethernet IP Address [129.X.X.106]:
Ethernet Subnetmask [255.255.255.0]: 255.255.255.128
Fibre Channel IP Address [0.0.0.0]:
Fibre Channel Subnetmask [0.0.0.0]:
Gateway IP Address [129.X.X.112]:
IP address being changed...
Committing configuration...Done.
sw3900a:root> ipAddrShow
Ethernet IP Address: 129.X.X.106
Ethernet Subnetmask: 255.255.255.128  <==== subnetmask
Fibre Channel IP Address: 0.0.0.0
Fibre Channel Subnetmask: 0.0.0.0
Gateway Address: 129.X.X.112

Due to bugid 6395973, Brocade switches configupload command does not save subnetmask setting of the switch. This leads to problem when customer replaced a switch and restore switch settings via the configdownload command. The bug has not been fixed as of FOS 5.0.3.

Solution

The workaround is to run ipAddrSet to set the correct subnetmask after switch setting is restored via the configdownload command.

Comment: Guy's,

This is a Bug ID and therefore should NOT be an Info Doc. What's going to happen to this Info Doc when a fix is available? Creating duplicate Information that has a good chance to be obsolete relatively quickly does not help us. I suggest not publishing this Ifo Doc. If people are searching Sun Solve for this issue, they will get a hit on the Bug ID and they will see the work around in it. This is unnecessary.

Thanks,
Paul Mazzarella
