Symptoms

If the 3v battery located on the motherboard of the Sun Fire[TM] V210 or Sun Fire[TM] V240 fails (or is removed for any reason) then ALOM will send out an alert informing the user of this fact.

Cause

For example:

SC Alert: VOLTAGE_SENSOR @ MB.BAT.V_BAT has exceeded low warning threshold.

You can also check the battery status by running the prtdiag -v command from Solaris[TM].
Here is an example of the voltage section of prtdiag -v output with a failed battery ==>

Solution

The battery that resides on the motherboard for these servers is now a FRU (Field Replaceable Unit) part and may be ordered and replaced independently of the motherboard. To minimize downtime and needless parts replacement when this battery fails, it is recommended that the battery FRU be ordered and replaced.
