Symptoms

At boot time, one or more of the following messages may be reported:

ifconfig: plumb: scman0: Bad file number
ifconfig: plumb: scman1: Bad file number
/platform/sun4u/kernel/drv/sparcv9/scman: undefined symbol 'kstat_hold_byname'
/platform/sun4u/kernel/drv/sparcv9/scman: undefined symbol 'kstat_rele'
WARNING: mod_load: cannot load module 'scman'

Cause

scman is delivered with the SUNWscdvr package. There are distinct and separate versions of the packages for Solaris[TM] 9 and Solaris[TM] 10.

Solution

Ensure the correct SUNWscdvr package version is installed for the version of Solaris[TM] installed on the SC in question.
