Symptoms

Main SC fails over to spare SC due to low system memory.

Messages from Main SC:

Messages from Spare SC:

Jun 28 11:26:37 2002 hostname fomd[378]: [8573 632701993069 NOTICE FailoverMgr.cc 2010] Taking over the main role because the remote SC (current Main) has a fault - Low System Memory

Cause

Invalid swap space allocation has caused a low memory condition.

Solution

Display your swap devices:

hostname:sms-svc:5> swap -l
swapfile dev swaplo blocks free
/dev/dsk/c0t3d0s1 32,25 16 263856 263856

Take the number under the blocks column * 512.
For example: 263856*512=135,094,272

In this case, there is approximately 135 megabytes of swap.

There must be at least 2 gigabytes of swap.

Add swap space to your existing swap space to total at least 2 gigabytes.

NOTE: Verify BOTH the main & spare SC have at least 2 gigabytes of swap space.
