Oracle Confidential PARTNER - Available to partners (SUN).
Reason: FABs are available to Internals and Partners only

Applies to:

SPARC T4-2 - Version Not Applicable to Not Applicable [Release N/A]
SPARC T4-1 - Version Not Applicable to Not Applicable [Release N/A]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Some SPARC T4-1 and T4-2 Servers may have an incorrect compliance label.

The SPARC T4‐2 and T4‐1 Servers electrical ratings are different:
 - T4‐1 (Compliance Model Number SERP2) electrical rating: 110‐127/200‐240V~, 50/60 Hz, 12A/7A Max
 - T4‐2 (Compliance Model Number SOLA3) electrical rating: 200‐240V~, 50/60 Hz, 12A Max

If SPARC T4-1 is marked with a SPARC T4-2 label:

The installation may plan for higher amperage than necessary (12A rating on SPARC T4-2 label versus 7A SPARC T4-1 current draw).

If SPARC T4-2 is marked with a SPARC T4-1 label:

The installation may plan for higher amperage than necessary at 100Vac (13A rating on SPARC T4-1 label versus 12A max SPARC T4-2 current draw).

At 200V-240VAC, it is assumed that the circuit protective current rating provided at the installation is 16A (internationally) and 20A (in North America).  With a 7A label rating, but 12A actual current draw, the assumed circuit protection is still suitable for use.

Impact

Mislabeling of these products does not compromise the physical safety of the system and does not put Oracle customers at a risk of shock or fire hazard.

For further details please read the attached Field Notice.

Changes

It is believed that less than 0.1% of SPARC T4-1 and T4-2 Servers produced between May and July of 2013 could be exposed to this compliance labeling issue.

Cause

This issue was due to inadvertent mixing of the two different labels in Manufacturing.

To prevent any further mislabeling, corrective actions in Manufacturing were undertaken in July, 2013 as follows:
• Locations and bins of labels were reorganized to create greater differentiation among label types.
• A bar code scanning of labels was implemented as a check point against potential for mislabeling.

Solution

Workaround

There is not a product safety risk to Oracle customers.  It is believed only a very small number of Servers were potentially exposed to this labeling issue, but if it is determined that a server contains an incorrect compliance label, please follow the instructions in the Resolution section below.

Resolution

If it is determined that a T4-2 or T4-1 Server has an incorrect compliance label and the customer requires it be corrected, please send email to the following alias compliance_request_ww_grp@oracle.com with the below information:

  Email Subject: Compliance Label request
Server Type: (SPARC T4-1 or T4-2)
  Server Serial Number:
  Customer Name:
Customer Contact: (name, email and phone number)
Customer Address: (address of system location) include street address, city, state/country, zip

Identification of Affected Parts (how to)

Any SPARC T4-2 or T4-1 shipped between May and July of 2013 may be impacted.  The compliance label must be visually inspected to determine if a system is impacted.

Comments

Oracle Field Service is not authorized to implement this corrective action.  Oracle Compliance Engineering will work with the appropriate compliance agency to arrange remediation.  However, field service may be requested to be on-site during the label replacement activities.
