Sun StorageTek L8500 Tape Library

Date of Resolved Release
24-Dec-2008

SL8500 firmware update Bridge process (see details below).

Impact

When upgrading SL8500 code to 4.13, if the original code is below 3.9x it fails to unpack the u-boot code module on the HBC card correctly during the download and unpack process in SLC.  With the failed unpack of the u-boot code module, the HBC card can not initialize correctly and will have to be replaced.

Contributing Factors

This is applicable only when the customer is upgrading SL8500 Tape Library firmware to the new 4.13 release from a codelevel that is at 3.9x or lower.

Symptoms

When the HBC card does not initialize correctly you will not be able to log back in to the HBC card.

Root Cause

Not applicable.

Corrective Action

Workaround:

No workaround available - see Resolution section below.
